Londoners will soon be able to travel up 109 meters in a glass elevator at the iconic Battersea Power Station, where toxic fumes once wafted over London. The view from the elevator will offer an expanse of the city’s skyline and will turn out to be one of the most unique 360° viewing platforms of London. Not only that, the space is all set to provide visitors with live music, fashion shows, conferences, and dinners. At a time, 40 lucky visitors will be allowed to board the lift and scale up the chimney and emerge at the top to take in the breathtaking view. The chimney lift is one of three attraction spaces on offer in the Power Station alongside shops, restaurants, and offices. The chimneys are being rebuilt, as the originals proved to have decayed to a point which made restoration excessively difficult.
The good news is that the chimney won’t burst open into space like it did in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The bad news is, the attraction isn’t scheduled to open until 2021. On opening, it will offer visitors unrivaled views of the capital's skyline from one of the most unique viewing platforms in London.
After you’re done with your ride, stroll down to the Control Room A which has been transformed into a 1930s art deco style space overlooking the turbine hall. The area has recently also seen the opening of the new US Embassy, and two new Northern line stations are being built nearby. Moreover, the renovated historic building will have hundreds of apartments as well as Apple’s UK headquarters.
The selection process to go aboard the elevator is being managed by international venue experts, IPW. For more information: www.batterseapowerstation.co.uk
