Durga Puja in Kolkata goes hand in hand with camaraderie and feasting. People from all walks of life and faith celebrate the festive cheer above everything else. Keeping in mind that eating out is one of the most popular activities during the festive days, The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat is holding a seven-day long food festival, starting October 12, to celebrate the arrival of Ma Durga in the city.
Called Pujor Mahabhoj (the Grand Feast), the elaborately designed food festival will be held at Seasonal Tastes, the all-day dining restaurant of The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat. The menu will feature an eclectic array of regional cuisines, starters and desserts. In keeping with the Pujo spirit, the menu lists everything from popular street food to traditional dishes.
The street food menu has ‘Kathi rolls’, ‘Jhal Muri’, ‘Churmur’, ‘Aloo Kabuli’, ‘Phuchka’, ‘Ghughni’ and typical Kolkata ‘chop’ and ‘cutlet’. So take your pick from the vegetarian ‘Mochar Chop’ to non-vegetarian ‘Machher chop’ or ‘Chingrir chop’.
The lunch and dinner buffet include Kolkata’s traditional favourites such as the ‘Kolkata Biryani’, ‘Kosha Mangsho’, ‘Dhokar Dalna’, ‘Chhanar Kalia’, and ‘Doi Murgi’.
Bengali meals are incomplete without ‘Maach’, and keeping that in mind, the menu lists fish-based dishes such as ‘Machher Paturi’, ‘Machher Jhal’ and ‘Sorse Machh’, prepared from popular fish varieties like ‘Rui’, ‘Pabda’, ‘Chittol’, ‘Katla’, ‘Bagda’ and ‘Golda Chingri’.
Alongside the Bengali menu, try out a few Mughlai favourites such as ‘Chicken Chaap’, ‘Gosht Rezala’, ‘Mughlai Paratha’ and ‘Murg Handi’.
Bengal is known for its sweets. No meal is complete without them. Some of the desserts on the mene are ‘Chhena Jalebi’, ‘Kheer Kadombo’, ‘Pantua’, ‘Chamcham’, ‘Komala Bhog’, ‘Seetabhog’, ‘Rosogolla’ and ‘Mishti Doi’. Apart from the specially curated menu, an unlimited beverage package with drinks will also be available.
