An acrobat spins herself on a bicycle on a thin rope; a contortionist captures the crowd’s attention while a duo of performers does a choreographed dance wearing a costume covered with paint.

At Cirque Du Soleil, one can expect the extraordinary to happen, and at their debut show ‘Bazzar’ which premieres in India, even more so. The Canadian entertainment company that hosts shows in over 450 cities in the world is coming to India for the first time in November in partnership with BookMyShow.

Cirque Du Soleil, which translates from French to ‘Circus of the Sun’ has been hosting spectacular shows with theatrics, music, performances and acrobatics on six continents since 1984, and this is its first time in India.

As India is the destination for the world premiere of 'Bazzar', Cirque’s 43rd production till date, there will be elements inspired from India—from the Big Top Tent that will act as the venue to performances by local Mallakhamb artists, an Indian sport with a mix of gymnastics and yoga. The show is being written and directed by Susan Gaudreau, and will involve over 30 artists from 13 different countries to bring together a show that captures the chaos, colours and madness in a local bazaar.

One can expect a feat of acrobatic stunts—artists juggling their time between duo roller skates, trapeze stunts, slacklining, acrobatic bikes, aerial ropes and Mallakhamb. There will be live music, theatrical performances, live sounds Cirque Du Soleil’s new production has all the over-the-top elements of the circus fantasy we harboured from when we were younger, but we are grateful for one exception—there is no elephant in this room.

The Cirque Du Soleil Bazzar will premiere in Mumbai on the MMRDA grounds from November 15 and in Delhi at Aerocity from December 25. Tickets are now live here.
