Durga Puja is a time of great joy celebrated in the months of September-October every year

It is enjoyed with utmost fervour and enthusiasm especially in West Bengal

Kolkata, the state capital, sees the streets light up

Pandals, or marquees, are set up in neighbourhood streets and corners, with large-scale idols of Maa Durga set up

The idols, or protimas, are adorned beautifully, each one having its own individual design and aesthetic

Often, they are embellished with artworks done by some of the finest craftspeople in the country and have a unique design

The idols become a meeting point for people as they commune to pray, celebrate and feast during this festive carnival
