The financial capital of Germany, Frankfurt has a lot of exciting places and experiences to offer. Scenic beauty, rich past, delectable cuisine and humble (and also extremely tall!) people, the city has it all.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have forced us to cancel our travel plans, but thanks to advanced virtual technology, we can now experience the best Frankfurt from the comfort of our couch.  


Germany is missing its visitors and in lieu is offering a virtual tour of the FrankfurtRhineMain region in the heart of Germany. The virtual tour will include places in and around Frankfurt like Darmstadt, Mainz, Bad Homburg, and Wiesbaden.

In less than two minutes, the video showcases the highlights of the city, the rich culture and history, breath-taking architecture on the banks of the Main River, lush greenery along with authentic cuisine. What’s more? The same web page also includes an amazing drone tour which will change your perspective towards this city.

Next, witness the reconstructed old town of Frankfurt which exhibits 15 new constructions (built to original plans) and a further 20 new buildings in the heart of the city centre giving Frankfurt a whole new look. The virtual tour of the “new old town” can be accessed by downloading the “Frankfurt Old Town AR” app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store, scan the postcard and tap the highlights you want to see.

If you’re into old historic buildings and light shows, then Luminale digital will be your go-to. The series of videos showcase the majestic city hall, the old opera house, the Carmelite monastery and many other buildings being illuminated with light and sound shows. The Luminale 2020 festival was due to take place from Thursday, March 12, to Sunday, March 15, 2020, but had to be cancelled. The light installations demonstrate the works of famous artists which will surely take you to a fantastical place, even if it’s for a brief moment!

The 4-minute image film of the Hessian state capital, Wiesbaden will take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. “That’s why we love it” projects the heart and soul of the city, the people, the grand architecture and the culinary scene. That’s not it! The 3D sightseeing videos of various attractions including the Kurhaus, the Hessian State Theatre, and Biebrich Palace on the Rhine, will not only give you the feel of the city, but also of the entire region around it.

You can even collect rewards for hunting squirrels and falcons digitally with The BadHomburGO app, also known as the “Stempelpass”. The app also includes useful information about the Bad Homburgo city and its highlights, as well as an interactive Schnitzeljagd (treasure hunt) where you can collect points and rewards for finding the animals using your phone. The languages available are German, French and English.

Experience the German capital of Art Nouveau – Darmstadt. Take a virtual tour of the Hotel Jagdschloss Kranichstein (a former hunting lodge) and the inimitable Grube Messel (Messel Pit Fossil Site) along with an 1899 established artists’ colony at Mathildenhöhe, to witness the hidden gems of the city. Lastly, travel back to Early Middle ages with the Lauresham digital video. Shot in Lorsch Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The “Ridge and furrow research project” revisits farming techniques of the early times in its lush green fields. The video is in the German language with English subtitles.
