Winter is here (quite literally, and figuratively). The cold season stirs up mixed reactions from people. However the common ground is the wonder we all feel about snowfall. If you've not yet been the charm of powder-white snow, this is for you. We bring you 10 places where you can have an unforgettable experience while witnessing your first ever snowfall:

Keylong, Lahaul Spiti, Himachal Pradesh
Snow-capped Keylong

Situated in the valley of Lahaul Spiti, Keylong is a quaint town with a laidback lifestyle.Head to the valley for scenic landscapes, the warmth of its people, and a blanket of thick, white snow.

Auli, Uttarakhand
This place is known for ski resorts and spectacular views of some of India’s highest peaks, including the Nanda Devi. A cable car system takes you all the way to Auli from Joshimath and ski-lifts take you to the snow encrusted slopes. Try your hand at skiing or just loll about in the winter sun.

Munsiyari, Uttarakhand

The eastern most district of Uttarakhand, bordered by Tibet, Munsiyari is the hub of skiing as well as other winter adventure sports. You can indulge in a variety of winter sports here and make the most of your vacation.

Yumthang, Sikkim
Sikkim’s Valley of Flowers, Yumthang is everything under one sky. Hot springs, a river,  meadows and all that in the lap of the Himalayan mountains - does it get any better? Of course! As soon as the first snow hits the ground, the place becomes a charming winter wonderland.

Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
A misty morning at Tawang With Tibet in the North and Bhutan in the Southwest, Tawang epitomises serenity. This land of high passes, waterfalls and lakes gets enveloped in white in the winters. If you wish to explore the east, we suggest you begin here.

Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh
Move over Shimla. Head to a higher altitude and you will find yourself in the bustling town of Narkanda. This town is the new Himachal paradise - its snow-clad slopes and curving roads look like they are straight out of a movie.

Khajjiar, Himachal Pradesh
India's mini Switzerland Sometimes called India’s mini Switzerland, Khajjiar has a small town vibe but nevertheless wins our heart every time. The soupy hot Maggi and your favourite warm cup, all make perfect sense here. And as winter sets in, the jungle starts looking denser making for a perfect mystic vibe. We say pack your bags and enjoy the snow as you hike your way through the jungle.

Katao, Sikkim
If a rugged terrain and an adrenaline rush gets you excited, Katao is your go-to place. Apart from the thrill of the brutal temperature one can also engage in snowboarding, skiing, snow tubing and snow grinding. Book your tickets for a real and breathtaking (quite literally) experience.

Chopta, Uttarakhand

One of the most well known treks in the country, Chopta is a rather small settlement with quaint villages lined up all along the way. Imagine the fresh snow accompanying every step you take.

Theog, Himachal Pradesh

A tiny, quaint settlement in Himachal Pradesh, Theog is heaven for those looking to enjoy snow. Away from the chaos of a city, Theog nestles perfectly between Shimla and Narkanda, giving it the town its vibe. We say enjoy the New Year’s eve here while enjoying the tiny snowflakes that look like shooting stars.
