The gorgeous state of Sikkim is a traveller's delight. The mighty Kachenjunga on the west, bejewelled by prayer flags (called Lung Ta locally) and adorned by the meandering Teesta, this kaleidoscopic state is rich with local culture and traditions. Hidden away from the rest of the world, Sikkim is home to many postcard villages and quaint corners. Here are four must-see villages in Sikkim that you need to visit at least once.

Lachen (North Sikkim)

One of the most beautiful roads lead to the village of Lachen. The curvy roads are festooned by prayer flags, enveloped by alpine vegetation, a plethora of florals and small bungalows.  As the way progresses and one gets closer to Lachen, the fog transcends, and the snow-capped mountains unveil themselves.  All the risky roads are worth the wait for this scenery. This offbeat town is home to various eye-popping places like Lachen Monastry, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, Thangu Valley, Tso Lamo Lake, Lhonak Valley and Green Lake.

Lachung (North Sikkim)

Lachung (which means small pass) is also known as mini Switzerland due to the presence of the famed Yumthang Valley (valley of flowers). The pasture lands of this valley are dotted with clusters of Rhododendron flowers, untethered horses and engulfed by the aroma of steaming hot momos, thukpa and Maggi. A trip is favourable from March to May here with many fruit orchards beckoning. Another 23 kilometers away is Zero Point. Snow covered most of the year, it is a sight to behold.
