Nestled inside Oxford Bookstore in the brimming Park Street, this place is perfect for a warm cup of cappuccino or latte in this pouring weather. If you’re looking for something stronger, go ahead and order the Filter Coffee. This place is ideal for a quick ‘adda’, steaming cups of coffee and munchies. With a minimalist look, clean menu and array of book shelves - this place is sure to hark at the Hermione inside you. Pair your cuppa with the ‘Fish & Chips’ and ‘Snack Platter’ to elevate the experience.

8th Day Café and Bakery

8th Day Cafe and BakeryThe aroma of fresh brewed coffee immediately hits your nose once you enter this little bakery.  Great location, warm muted lights, steaming coffee and a global menu is what makes it special. While it can be a little difficult to get a table here, we suggest trying their Nitro Brew if you are curing a hangover or Monday blues. They also have a ‘Coffee Trio’ that offer three different types of brews incase one is unsure about what to try while lazily looking out the giant glass windows as it pours outside.

As the smell of fresh baked goodies waft through the air, step inside this slice of Paris in the heart of Kolkata. Owner Sneha Singhi, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate is quite particular about the interiors and menu selection. The showpieces that adorn the cafe have been flown in from France. While Eartha Kitt’s melodious voice lulls you into a daze, order up a Café Mocha or Irish coffee while enjoying the sweet nothings of a delicious red velvet cupcake. The places oozes warmth and comfort – perfect for those gloomy days and is reminiscent of a different world, a utopian fantasy.

Paris Café is open 8am to 10.30pm, Monday to Sunday.

Where: 1/1, Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue, Near Ice Skating Rink, Ballygunge, Kolkata

Wise Owl

Tucked away in the popular neighbourhood of Hindustan Park, Wise Owl is a quaint shop. Warm lights, white interiors and miniature owls adorning the shelf, this café can house around 20 people. Huddle up with your gang and order warm cups of their Special Cappuccino. While it’s mostly crowded, there is no better way to enjoy the monsoon than sitting inside and nibbling away at scrumptious food. The giant glass door that separates the indoor seating from the outdoor gives way to a world outside that is completely oblivious to the monsoon shenanigans.

Wise Owl is open 7.30am to 10.45pm, Monday to Sunday.

Where: 66/2B, Purna Das Road, Hindustan Park, Kolkata; Tel: 033 40637038, 033 24646422

Roastery Coffee House

Tidy little corner at the Roastery Coffee HouseThis relatively new café is housed on the ground floor of the gorgeous Calcutta South India Club. With options aplenty and a huge space to rave about, this is also a roastery. Their Cascara coffee is quite popular, however with a 15 page coffee menu, one is spoilt for choice. Order up a side of their Cheesy Onion Rings and sip in like a true coffee connoisseur. While their outdoor is absolutely stunning with a very vintage feel, the interiors are just as minimalist yet resplendent. Sure to remind of the British Raj era or the French town of Pondicherry, this is also the once café in Kolkata to have a coffee roasting machine which makes it a classic must visit.

Roastery Coffee House is open 8am to 11.30pm, Monday to Sunday

Where: 70 B, Calcutta South India Club, Gariahat, Kolkata; Tel: 033 30990508
