Remember Amitabh Bachchan serenading Zeenat Aman on a gondola in Venice? As he sang ‘Do lafzon ki hai’, the camera gave the audience a view of the gorgeous Venetian canals, instilling a sense of wanderlust. Italy has long been a favourite filming location among Bollywood directors and actors. While Bachchan’s The Great Gambler (1979) gave Indian filmgoers a taste of Italy, in recent years, the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have all shot for films and extravagant dance numbers in the European country. Thanks to such gorgeous locales, tourism has increased heavily in such places, especially among Indian travellers.

Who wouldn’t want to sing on a gondola or dance near Venetian bridges like Akshay and Kareena in Kambakkht Ishq? Don’t forget Ranbir serenading Deepika all over Venice in Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Then, the big budgeted Housefull was shot in Puglia and the Gargano coastline. And let’s not forget the captivating concert by Ranbir aka Jordan at the Verona Arena in Rockstar. There have been tons of other locations of course, like the Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Jeans; Milan’s cathedral and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Ajab Gazabb Love, and all over Naples in Shaadi No. 1.

Thus, be it the north or the south, Italy remains a Bollywood favourite with plenty of locations yet to be featured. It makes viewers want to visit the country even more after seeing their favourite stars in their favourite films there.
