New Delhi: The Irish House

It's green, it's wooden and it's a pub. It's The Irish House in Delhi!

A bit of shemrock here and a bit of beer barrel there-it's an Irish pub! Yes, The Irish House in Nehru Place is the closest you'll get to a real Irish pub in Delhi. With the right and energetic pub vibe, The Irish House is here to give a meaning to the tern 'watering hole'.

The bar at The Irish House

Different varieties of beer (domestic and international) stood against the green and brown backdrop. Behind that, a shiny bar with high bar stools; from where we were sitting, only a row of beer barrels separated us from an evening high in Irish spirits. Literally.

The outdoor setting at The Irish House

The time of the year was right. The nip in the air called for some quick (and hot) beverages. Of course I meant spirits. The cool evening felt right for some house signature- Spiced Rusty Nail-a drink of whisky, Drambuie, cranberry infused tea and cinnamon, and Winter's Call- it's whisky and spiced apple juice (served hot). Without a doubt, the hot drink became our favourite for the evening.

One thing Irish House elsewhere is known for, apart from its wide range of drinks, is food. With quality, we also believed in quantity, so we called for The Melting Pot from their Community Eats section. Beer spiked three cheese sauce fondue, that came with mushroom, roasted potatoes, tomatoes, toasted foccacia croutons and fresh foccacia bites. Well, they don't say "sharing is loving" for nothing. Sharing a huge serving of fondue did give us that extra loving feeling towards trying out other items. In that sharing spirit, next we called for crunchy mini tacos. The mini corn tortillas stuffed with baked beans, fresh tomato salsa, shredded veggies, toppes with cheddar cheese and sour cream, was perfect bite-sized Mexican goodness.

If you are a prawn-fan like yours truly, you must try their Drunken Prawn-crispy fried prawns served with creamy brandy dip. The prawn-induced happiness put together with spirit in my dip must have been the reason we called for The Great Irish Fish N Chips. The fish would have gone down a lot easily had it been lightly battered. I could taste the beer in the batter allright, but that somehow eclipsed basa-the fish of Fish N Chips.

There's a lot to eat and drink. Their community cocktails are a must-try. (Warning: suitable for a large group. Really)

Aptly named The Irish Terminator, the sole purpose of that behemoth of a cocktail drink is to terminate all mixed feelings of "a drink or two". With a generous help of vodka, rum, gin, triple sec, grape juice, grenadine and topped with beer, it's a bomb. If not for anything else, try it for its impressive size.
