What lies beneath the surface is always fascinating to those interested in the history, both geological and civilisational, of our planet. The latest news: archaeologists recently unearthed a tomb in the Jordanian town of Beit Ras. It has two burial chambers, with frescoes with paintings of grape vines, mythological scenes and other fascinating motifs. Evidence suggests it’s from the Classical era, placing it in the early first millennium. But this is simply the tip of an iceberg, so to speak–Beit Ras was once an important, sophisticated city known as Capitolias, which may even have had a theatre. Who knows what other treasures will be unearthed here? Make a trip to Jordan to see for yourself; see visitjordan.com.
