Survey of heritage properties in India puts Umaid Bhawan, Jodhpur, at the No. 1 spot

A survey of heritage hotels in India by the travel portal TripAdvisor has put Umaid Bhawan, Jodhpur, a Taj Hotels property, at the top spot. The 2014 Travellers’ Choice Awards for Heritage Hotels is based on millions of reviews and feedback from travellers registered on TripAdvisor. This year, Rajasthan has nine winning hotels in the final list of 25, the state topping the chart for the third time in a row. Kerala has six winning properties this year, up from four last time. Uttarakhand has three properties and West Bengal has two. The state of Delhi has only one winner, Imperial Hotel.

The top 25 heritage properties are Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, Rajasthan (1); Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, Rajasthan (2); Rawla Narlai, Rajasthan (3); Taj Rambagh Palace, Rajasthan (4); Chapslee, Himachal Pradesh (5); The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata, West Bengal (6); The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, Maharashtra (7); Kalmatia Sangam, Uttarakhand (8); Ratan Vilas, Rajasthan (9); Prospect Hotel, Panchgani, Maharashtra (10); The Imperial Hotel, New Delhi, Delhi (11); Niraamaya Retreats, Kerala (12); Coconut Lagoon, Kerala (13); Samode Palace, Rajasthan (14); The Lalit Great Eastern, Kolkata, West Bengal (15); Kumarakom Lake Resort, Kerala (16); Spice Village, Kerala (17); Brunton Boatyard, Kerala (18); Netuk House Hotel, Sikkim (19); Jai Mahal Palace, Rajasthan (20); Fortune The Savoy, Uttarakhand (21): The Naini Retreat, Uttarakhand (22); Jaiwana Haveli, Rajasthan (23); Amet Haveli, Rajasthan (24); Emerald Isle – The Heritage Villa, Kerala (25).
