Climb the Harz Mountain in northern Germany on the night of April 30 (the eve of the Feast of St. Walpurga) and you will find the witches gathered on its highest peak, the Brocken or the Blocksberg. The peak and event that Goethe immortalised in Faust. Some say, this is the night when the witches gather to decide on their future activities, while some believe this is the time when witches welcome Spring. Locally known as the Walpurgisnacht, or the night of the witches, it is a fun-filled celebration when many arrive dressed as witches and dance around bonfires. Visitors can take the narrow gauge train from Wernigerode to the top (http://www.hsb-wr.de/en).  Besides joining the celebration, you can also pay a visit to the Harz National Park (http://www.nationalpark-harz.de/en/)
