Amazon is back with their Prime Day Sale where you can expect great discounts while, at the same time, a surplus of locally produced products on the platform. It is providing Small and Midsize Businesses, more colloquially known as SMEs or SMBs, much-needed exposure to the eCommerce landscape. The two-day sale will go live on 26th July and allow customers to purchase from many product categories with huge margins of potential discounts.
This Prime Day, Amazon has planned to empower the smaller businesses, including startups, weavers, women entrepreneurs, artisans, and is set to launch over 2400 products across multiple categories and to extend support to over 100 new SMBs. The businesses hit by the Covid-19 crisis, as well as new and upcoming local artisans, both can use this opportunity to upscale their businesses, and also allows Amazon to spread its reach and deliver faster. Prime Day 2021 also marks the fifth anniversary of Prime in India. The sale offers Prime members exclusive access to incredible deals across multiple categories on the platform. Sellers under various programs like Local Shops on Amazon, Karigar, Saheli, and Launchpad are ready to launch a stream of new products produced by SMBs and offering exciting deals over the two-day shopping bonanza.
The previous edition of Prime Day in India was a resounding success, with over 91,000 sellers reporting a substantial profit. With sellers participating from tier 2 and tier 3 cities across India, and the rise in business provided by Amazon has helped thousands of SMBs take roots in the industry. Around 209 SMBs became millionaires during the sale last year.
Over a million Prime members participated and shopped for thousands of products from small businesses.
This year, due to the upsurge in the number of local sellers and manufacturers directly or indirectly dealing through Amazon, their product pool is certainly pretty extensive and varied.
It will also provide a platform for women-made products to deliver exposure to thousands of budding entrepreneurs using the Amazon Saheli program and also empower skillful artisans by giving them a platform to show their craftsmanship over the Amazon Karigar initiative.
From traditional fashion to art pieces, handicrafts, spices, and everyday items made here, in India, by smaller companies that needed upliftment. All occurring under the Launchpad initiative by Amazon to help SMBs get a foothold in the industry.
The thousands of new sellers added will help cater to the massive demand expected on Prime Day and bring along with them thousands of new products for customers to shop from. Over 50 per cent of the newly added sellers come from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, who have been trained to use the platform as efficiently as possible. With multiple programs underway, like the Amazon Karigar, instead of attending haats to showcase their products, artisans have been allowed an easy move online. From art pottery to block-printed and jamdani sarees, this new surge in products will equally prove beneficial to your shopping experience.
Around 500 women-led businesses under Amazon Saheli are set to showcase a massive collection of over 90,000 products across multiple categories like jewelry, fashion, decor, and more.
