A new weight loss shot is on the horizon and could be available in late 2023. GEP44 is a new anti-obesity treatment that is reported to be more effective than Ozempic and Wegovy -and doesn't cause side effects.

There is no brand name yet for GEP44 as it is still in clinical trials. The media hype is underway with some sources saying it has the benefits of a gastric bypass but without the surgery.

What are GEP44 Weight Loss Shots?

Without wishing to pour scorn on the GEP44 obesity jab - it's just another injectable drug that is meant to treat diabetes (GLP-1 agonists) that has been refocused and presented as a miracle weight loss drug.

Most weight loss jabs are remarkably similar: Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro. They work by lowering blood sugar and affecting metabolism. This in turn suppresses appetite making you less hungry and less likely to crave food. Reducing your excess weight is a byproduct (or positive side effect).

This sounds good so far doesn't it. But when you factor in the cost of Ozempic and other aspects, they start to be less appealing.

Most of the GLP-1 (Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists) can cause some pretty nasty side effects.

Ozempic and Wegovy are both medications used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity, respectively. They belong to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. While they are generally well-tolerated, both medications can have some potential side effects. Some of the most common side effects of Ozempic and Wegovy include:

Side effects of Ozempic:

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Constipation

  • Abdominal pain

  • Headache

  • Fatigue

  • Dizziness

  • Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, itching, pain)

  • serious allergic reaction

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

Side effects of Wegovy:

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Constipation

  • Abdominal pain

  • Headache

  • Fatigue

  • Dizziness

  • Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, itching, pain)

  • Serious allergic reactions

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

  • High blood pressure

  • Increased heart rate

  • Gallbladder problems (e.g., gallstones)

  • Kidney damage or failure (rare)

It is important to note that not everyone will experience these side effects and that they may vary in severity. It is also important to talk to your healthcare provider about any concerns or side effects you may experience while taking these medications.

GEP44 Clinical Trials

The study was presented at an American Chemical Society meeting on Wednesday and was conducted under the direction of Dr. Robert Doyle of Syracuse University and Dr. Christian Roth of Seattle Children's Research Institute.

The most recent findings also demonstrate that rats treated with GEP44 maintain their new, leaner physique long after therapy ceases, which is sometimes not the case with presently licensed medications, according to Dr. Doyle.

Weight Loss Jabs in 2023

Two such drugs that are making headlines in 2023 are Wegovy and Ozempic.

While both drugs are aimed at weight loss, there are some key differences between them. For starters, Wegovy is a newer medication that has just been approved by the FDA in 2021, whereas Ozempic has been on the market since 2017.

While both prescription drugs work by mimicking the effects of a hormone called GLP-1, Wegovy is a higher dosage of this hormone and is therefore more potent.

The dosing schedule for Wegovy is different from Ozempic, with patients needing to take it once a week compared to Ozempic's once daily regimen.

Understanding these differences is crucial for patients and healthcare providers when deciding which medication to choose for effective weight loss management.

Ozempic Weight Loss Jab (Really Meant to Treat Diabetes)

Ozempic is a prescription medication intended for people living with type 2 diabetes. This medication aims to control blood sugar levels by increasing insulin production and decreasing glucagon levels.

It contains the injectable prescription medicine Semaglutide.

Ozempic is often prescribed off label for weight loss (treating obesity) to people who have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 27 or above

However, it comes with a hefty price tag with an average price of $1300 per month.

Ozempic should not be taken by individuals with type 1 diabetes, and individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult with their doctor before taking it.

Despite its cost, many people who have used Ozempic have reported losing weight. On average, users can expect to lose up to 5-10% of their body weight over the course of a year. If you have type 2 diabetes or you are looking for a new weight loss treatment option, talk to your doctor to see if Ozempic may be right for you.

Wegovy Weight Loss Shot

Wegovy is a brand name for the medication Semaglutide, which is an injectable prescription medication used for weight management. It was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June 2021 as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults with obesity or overweight who have at least one weight-related condition.

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which means that it mimics the action of a hormone called GLP-1 that is naturally produced in the body. GLP-1 helps regulate appetite and metabolism, and it can promote weight loss by reducing food intake, increasing feelings of fullness, and slowing down gastric emptying.

Clinical trials of semaglutide have shown that it can lead to significant weight loss in people with obesity or overweight. In a 68-week study involving more than 1,500 adults with obesity or overweight, those who took semaglutide lost an average of 15% of their initial body weight, compared to 2.4% for those who took a placebo. In another study involving more than 2,000 adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity, those who took semaglutide lost an average of 6.2% of their initial body weight, compared to 1.9% for those who took a placebo.

Wegovy is administered once a week by subcutaneous injection, usually into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. The recommended starting dose is 0.25 mg per week, which is gradually increased to 2.4 mg per week over 16 weeks. After that, the maintenance dose is 2.4 mg per week.

One of the drawbacks of Wegovy is its cost. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the average wholesale price of a 4-week supply of Wegovy was approximately $1,300. Insurance coverage may vary depending on the plan and the individual's eligibility criteria. Thus, it is a medication that can only be obtained with a doctor's prescription.

In summary, Wegovy is a prescription medication that helps people with obesity or overweight manage their weight by reducing appetite and promoting feelings of fullness. It can lead to significant weight loss over time when used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. However, it is an expensive medication and should be used only under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Mounjaro Injection to Lose Weight

Mounjaro is another new weight loss drug that is designed to help men and women achieve their desired body weight targets and reduce their BMI.

Mounjaro contains the compound Tirzepatide and works in much the same way that Ozempic and Wegovy does.

It would be fair to say that Mounjaro has not received the same media hype and publicity that the other weight loss drugs have (Ozempic and Wegovy). It could also be rendered obsolete if the reports that GEP44 jab for weight is better than most weight loss drugs on the market in 2023.

GEP44 Weight Loss Shot Summary

Weight loss shots are trending and trendy in 2023. The media hype has focused on the positives of the likes of Wegovy and Ozempic initially - and now they are starting to focus on the negatives.

There are several negatives that you should be aware of before using any jab for losing weight. It is a drug after all, and drugs can come with side effects - nausea, headache and high blood pressure are just some of the milder adverse reactions.

The cost of injectable weight loss drugs can be prohibitive - they can be $1000 a month or above. There is no set price GEP44 yet so we may be doing this new weight loss jab a disservice.

Also, if you stop the treatment, cease taking the injections - you are likely to regain the weight you have lost.

All in all, a natural alternative seems to be a better option for many reasons.
