Sounding upbeat a day after ballotting, BJP leaders today claimed the Shiv Sena-BJP combine would get majority or emerge as the largest group and form government with the help of Independents.
The leaders are, however, reluctant to give any definite number of assembly seats the combine expects to win.
The coalition has virtually decided that in case it forms the government, Desai, a confidant of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, would be its Chief Minister for the "time being", BJP leaders said.
"Though Bal Thackeray wants Udhav Thackeray to be the Chief Minister, the Sena chief realises that he has no experience in administration," a BJP leader said.
As part of the understanding, Desai would hold the post of Chief Minister till Udhav is groomed for the job, he said.
