Dibrugarh, Mar 15 (PTI) Three militants were killed in encounters with the army and police in Assam's North Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong districts today.

In North Lakhimpur, the extremists, suspected to either the ULFA or NDBF exchanged fire with personnel of the 2 Bihar Regiment at Silikhaguri Sapori, under Narayanpur police station, around 4.30 a.M, with two being killed, defence sources said.

An injured militant escaped with his AK-47 rifle, while a pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a revolver with four rounds were recovered from the slain ultras, the sources said.

In a separate encounter in Karbi Anglong district, an NDFB militant was killed.

A group of three NDFB militants involved in extortion had gone to collect the money when a group of policemen stopped them, but they managed to escape after opening fire.

The police team, joined by more forces, chased the militants and in an encounter at at Panbari area under Diphu police station killed one of them.

The two others managed to escape.

The police seized a .32 bore revolver and five cartridges, a hand grenade and a mobile set from the slain militant.
