Writer, poet Jeet Thayil's first novel Narcopolis has been nominated among five others for the prestigious Man Booker Prize.

The author was among 12 in the longlist.

Thayil's  Narcopolis is set in the late 1970s and opens in Mumbai. The book revolves around sex, drugs, addiction and more.

The winner of the Booker is scheduled to be announced on 16 October.
