Strike Call by Hurriyat Conference Hits Life in Kashmir
Life in Kashmir was affected due to a strike called by hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani to protest against the arrest of youth in the Valley during the summer unrest.

All shops, business establishments and private offices remained closed on account of the strike called by Geelani, officials said.

The attendance in government offices also remained thin and transport services remained off the roads, they said.

The effect of strike was accentuated by the heavy snowfall across the Kashmir Valley, which forced people to stay indoors.

Geelani had called for the strike today against the alleged harassment of youth and large scale arrests by the security forces during the five month summer unrest last year.
