Scandal-Hit Tiger Woods, Wife Elin Officially Split
Tiger Woods and his Swedish model wife Elin Nordegren have divorced nine months after a car accident outside his home that led to revelations about the world's top golfer cheating on her with a string of affairs that included a porn star and a cocktail waitress.

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," 34-year-old Woods and Nordegren (30), a blond former model, said in a joint statement.

"While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us," they said.

In 2004, the couple had married in Barbados and have a three-year-old daughter Sam Alexis and an 18-month-old son Charlie Axel.

Woods and Nordegren said once they had decided to split that their primary focus had been to ensure the well being of their children.

"The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern," they said.

In her divorce petition, Nordegren said her marriage had "irretrievably broken" and asked for her maiden name to be restored.

There were no immediate details on the divorce settlement amount, which is speculated anywhere between USD 100 million and USD 500 million.

The couple was present at Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Florida, yesterday for the execution of their divorce agreement.

Woods's downslide began on November 27 last year when he crashed his car into a tree and a fire hydrant near his Orlando home. The crash touched off a global scandal, leading to his admission of adultery.

The golfer has apologised for his behaviour, spent 45 days in rehab for sex-addiction and has spoken of continuing his treatment. After the sex scandal broke, Woods took a five month break and then entered the Masters in April.

"I want to say to each one of you simply and directly I am deeply sorry for the irresponsible and selfish behaviour I engaged in," he had said, during a 14 minute apology in February. "I am embarrassed I have put you in this position. For all that I have done I am so sorry."

The world's No.1 golfer disappeared from the public scene after the sex scandal broke out.

Rumours quickly surfaced that the car crash had followed an argument with his wife over an affair with New York club hostess Rachel Uchitel. But Woods had denied it.

Since then, 19 women in their twenties and thirties have claimed to have been involved with Woods, who earned an estimated USD 118 million last year in prize money and endorsements.

Shocking details of his private life received worldwide attention with several of the golfer's mistresses, including a porn star, a cocktail waitress and a Las Vegas club manager, coming forward to provide information about his infidelity.

29-year-old porn star Devon James claimed that Woods is the father of her son Austin T James, whose middle name is allegedly after Tiger.

Another woman Theresa Rogers claimed that she had Woods' baby in 2004 but kept quiet after getting a multi million-dollar deal for her silence.
