Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma has waded into controversy again by stating that the three time national award winning Malayalam actor Mammootty was a 'junior artiste' compared to his son Dilquar Salman.
After watching the latest Mani Ratnam film "O Kadhal Kanmani", Varma tweeted "Mammooty's son will make Kerala proud in the non-Kerala markets in just years which Mammooty couldn't do for decades."
"Mammooty is a junior artiste compared to his son", he tweeted.
"Just saw Mani's film and if the award committee members have any sense they will take back all awards of Mammooty and give it to his son", the director added.
Though Mammootty has not yet reacted, his son Dilquar tweeted, "In ten life times I won't be one millionth the actor my father is, no matter what I accomplish".
The Malayalam film industry has also not taken kindly to the RGV tweets.
Kunchako Boban, Aju Varghese and Aashique Abu are among those who have responded harshly on their Facebook page.
