Report on Malegaon Blast Accused Purohit Sent to Army

The Army headquarters has received the Court of Inquiry (CoI) report against the Malegaon blast accused Lt Col Prasad Purohit and is looking into it.

The CoI carried out by a Brigadier has been completed and the report from the Central command has been received and is being examined by the authorities concerned, Army sources said here without elaborating.

Meanwhile, Purohit is understood to have written to Army chief Gen Bikram Singh claiming that he was not a terrorist and had dutifully served the nation, sources close to him said here.

However, Army officials said no such letter has been received from the officer.

Purohit's lawyer in the Supreme Court Neela Gokhale also denied having any knowledge about such a letter but said the officer was thinking about doing so in the recent past.

His wife Aparna, said, "we were leading a normal life till this happened. It was shocking for me to go through all this. My husband is not a terrorist. I still have faith that my husband will get justice."

The former MI officer, facing both civilian and military trial, had recently said that he had "infiltrated" Hindu radical outfit Abhinav Bharat, which was allegedly involved in the 2008 attack, and kept his bosses in the loop on the issue.

Purohit's claim was, however, rejected by the Army saying that the this was not the mandate for personnel of the Military Intelligence.

The CoI ordered was against him in 2009 with the mandate to find out whether he had violated the Army Act by having links with unauthorised individuals and organisations, it said.
