Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted melody queen Lata Mangeshkar on her 85th birthday.
"On Lata Didi's birthday, I convey my warm greetings and pray for her long life and good health," the Prime Minister said.
Recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country, Mangeshkar has sung for generations of Bollywood actresses from Madhubala to Kareena Kapoor.
She has recorded songs for over a thousand Bollywood movies and has lent her voice for over 36 regional Indian languages and foreign languages.
Several film celebrities including her sister Asha Bhosle, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and singer Shreya Ghosal also wished her and thanked her for giving several memorable songs.
"Your voice is the thread that connects the human spirit to the Almighty. Happy Birthday, many many happy returns of the day. Love, respect and may you live many more years," Bachchan posted.
Asha posted some black and white pictures of their childhood, where the two sisters could be seen sharing light moments.
