PK Banerjee gets FIFA centennial order of merit
Margao, Jun 22 (PTI) Former Indian football captain and Arjun awardee coach P K Baneerjee has been bestowed the prestgious FIFA centennial order of merit, All India Football Federation Secretary Alberto Colaco said here today.

Banerjee, who represented India for 13 years during which he scored 66 goals, played three Asian Games at Tokyo, Jakarta and Bangkok and was part of the team that won the gold medal in the 1962 Asian Games.

He also captained the Indian team at Rome Olympics in 1960 and was member of the team that stood fourth in Olympic Games at Melbourne in 1956.

Banerjee, who was awarded the Arjuna award in 1961 and Padmashree in 1990, has received many awards during his long and distinguished career.

Banerjee, who also coached the national team from 1970 to 1986, has also distinguished himself as a radio and TV commentator and also writes regularly for many newspapers and magazines.

He was the former director of the Tata Football Academy.
