An official, deputed to monitor situation arising out of cyclonic storm threat faced by coastal villages in Andhra Pradesh, was suspended today for alleged dereliction in his duties, official sources said.

Mandal Development Officer (MDO) of Mamidikuduru Mandal of Amalapuram division, D Nagendra was found absent on his duty when the district collector M Ravichandra visited the village yesterday to review the preparations to face cyclone, which is likely to hit Andhra coastline tomorrow, they said.

The Collector took a serious note of it and suspended the erring officer, they said.

Ravichandra has warned of strict action against officials on cyclone monitoring duty if they are found guilty of lax attitude, the sources said.
