Eminent Urdu scholar and critic editor of prestigious journal Sher-O-Hikma Mughni Tabassum  passed away after a prolonged illness.

Tabassum (82) died last evening at a corporate hospital here. He is survived by wife, two sons and three daughters.

He was today laid to rest at the Qutub Shahi graveyard in Khairatabad.

A former Head of the Urdu Department, Osmania University, Tabassum also served as the Director of city-based Idara Adabiath-e-Urdu and edited its literary magazine `Sabras' for several years.

He was maternal uncle of Ausaf Sayeed, current Indian Ambassador to Yemen.
