Varanasi, Feb 21 (PTI) Chief Minister Mayawati, who came all the way to attend saint Ravidas' birth anniversary here, could not visit the birth place of the fourteenth century saint, located just two hundred meters away from the place where she addressed a rally on the occasion.

According to officials, the Chief Minister could not visit the Sant Ravidas temple at Seer Gowardhanpur, his actual birth place, because of security reasons.

Mayawati arrived here at about 11.30 AM, about half an hour behind schedule and headed straight for the venue of the function.

She was there for about forty minutes during which it was announced that she would also visit the birth place of the saint.

Surprisingly, however, the Chief Minister unveiled the Rs 1.5 crore golden palki meant for Sant Ravidas temple at the stage itself, delivered her speech and left for the chopper.

Her supporters and devotees of Sant Ravidas who had been waiting for her at the saint's birth place just a few metres away were disappointed when they saw her chopper flying.

When asked about the skip, top police officials said it was due to security reasons.
