With security forces being on high alert, there was little impact of the bandh in Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The banned outfits gave the call for bandh to protest against alleged "police atrocities against their cadres, fake encounters and severe repression by the Centre." Bihar and Jharkhand bore the brunt of the militants' ire.
MCC and PWG ultras set off explosions and badly damaged Ankorha railway station and cabin on the Mughalsarai-Patna section of East Central Railway early today. They also blew up the tracks near the station and a culvert completely disrupting the movement of trains on the section, a railway spokesman said in Patna.
Railway tracks were also blown up between Paraiya and Kashtha stations on Mughalsarai-Gaya section and the cabin was locked by the ultras at Phesar railway station, he said.
Over two dozen trains, including those between Howrah and New Delhi were stranded following the attacks which has also caused cancellation of a number of trains.
In Jharkhand, the ultras attacked Dania and Dasra railway stations in Dhanbad division throwing train services out of gear on Barkakhana-Garwa Road, Garwah Road-Sonnagar and Garwah Road-Chappan, railway sources said.
They triggered a blast and destroyed a portion of Dasra railway station and cabin. Its station master was kidnapped but later released. The naxalites also chased away the staff at Dania railway station and locked it up.
In Palamu district, around 40 ultras detonated a dynamite and destroyed a telephone exchange at Hariharganj snapping over 500 phone connections, police said.
In Andhra Pradesh, a block-level BJP Secretary was gunned down by naxals while a CPI (ML) Deputy Commander was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Karimnagar district.
The outfits had called for bandh in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
