Kuldip Nayar, N. Ram to Get Life-Time Achievement Awards

Veteran journalists Kuldip Nayar and N Ram would be conferred with life-time achievement awards instituted by the Mumbai Press Club at a function here on May 25.

The awards would be presented to Nayar and Ram by Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan at a glittering function to be held at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Tata Theatre in South Mumbai, says a release here.

On the occasion, more than 20 other journalists will receive awards in various categories for excellence in journalism.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards were selected by the managing committee of the Press Club based on a survey of leading and senior journalists from all over the country, Gurbir Singh, President of Mumbai Press Club, said.

While Nayar is revered as a columnist and peace activist apart from being a former Rajya Sabha member, Ram has headed "The Hindu" Group as the Managing Director and the Editor-in-Chief for over two decades. Ram has also been conferred the 'Padma Bhushan' by the Indian Government and the 'Sri Lanka Ratna' by the Government of Sri Lanka.

The Press Club awards, popularly known as "RedInk Awards", received over 900 entries from journalists all across India.

Winners have been chosen in nine categories including sports, media and entertainment; health and environment; crime, business, politics, television story, science and innovation, and photojournalism.

Some of the eminent judges included Ravi Shastri, Rahul Bose, Kumar Ketkar, Pritish Nandy, Minhaz Merchant, Shirish Inamdar, Hussain Zaidi, Khalid Mohammad and Colvyn Harris.
