J&K Legislative Council Pays Tribute to Pataudi
Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today paid tribute to former captain of the Indian cricket team Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who died in Delhi last week.

Acting chairman of the Legislative Council included Pataudi's name while moving the obituary reference for former members of the state legislature who had passed away since the last session.

The members of the Upper House paid tribute to the former India cricket team captain recalling his contribution to the game of cricket in the country.

They described Pataudi as a "courageous", "decent" and "elegant" person on and off the field.

PDP MLC Murtaza Khan said only a man like Pataudi could have admitted the wrong doings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite being a member of its Governing Council.

The members also paid homage to the victims of the earthquake in Sikkim and called for measures to meet any similar eventuality in Jammu and Kashmir as the state is located in a quake-prone seismic zone.

"While expressing solidarity with the people of Sikkim, we have to learn our lessons as our state also falls in quake-prone zone. We need to take steps to meet such an eventuality," National Conference MLC Devender Rana said.

The members also paid homage to former Speaker of the state Assembly Ghulam Mohammad Mir Rajpori, former legislators Sadiq Ali, Ahmadullah Azad and Nazir Ahmad Mir, who died since the last session in April this year.

The House observed two minutes of silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls.
