International flights from Chandigarh-Mohali international airport would be operational from August, the Punjab Government said today.

Chief Secretary of Punjab SC Aggarwal said international flights from Chandigarh-Mohali international airport would be operational from August 2009 and security personnel, X-Ray machines including other infrastructure would be installed during this month.

He said in order to facilitate late night international flight operations, officers of Airport Authority of India have been directed to extend watch hours of Air Traffic Controller (ATC) upto midnight.

The Chief Secretary also said that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had already taken up the matter with Defence AK Antony to direct the Air Force authorities to extend ATC watch hours by one hour for international flights.

Fly Dubai Airlines was to start international operations from this airport in July, but was delayed as required infrastructure at the airport was not installed, Aggarwal said.

The Chief Secretary said that the international airport would cater to the needs of passengers belonging to Punjab, UT Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh as well as Uttranachal.

He said that security personnel would be provided by the Punjab Government, while computer and X-ray machines would be installed by the Chandigarh Administration and Airport Authority of India respectively.
