Freedom fighter and veteran socialist leader Ram Anand Dasare passed away here today due to old-age related ailments, family sources said.

He was was 84. Dasare is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Dasare, popularly known as `Sathi' in the state, was born and brought up here in Western Maharashtra. He took part in various movements during the freedom struggle.

He was associated with socialist stalwarts like Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayprakash Narayan, Achut Patwardhan and Madhu Dandavate.

Dasare played a major role in the Sanyukta Maharashtra Andolan (for creation of a Marathi-speaking state) and also fought against the imposition of Emergency in 1975.
