Former K'taka CM Bangarappa Quits Cong, Joins JDS
Former Karnataka Chief Minister S Bangarappa today formally announced his decision to quit the Congress and join the JDS headed by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.

"I am leaving the Congress and joining the JDS. I don't want to tell all the reasons (for quitting Congress) but I will disclose some," Bangarappa told reporters here.

JDS sources said Bangarappa and Deve Gowda are slated to address a joint press conference here, likely on Wednesday.

JDS state unit President H D Kumaraswamy met Bangarappa yesterday and invited him to join his party. Bangarappa was all praise for Kumaraswamy for his "campaign" against the BJP government headed by B S Yeddyurappa.

Sources said Bangarappa is slated to formally join JDS at a rally next week in his home district of Shimoga, from where Yeddyurappa also hails.

Bangarappa has quit the Congress at least half a dozen times and rejoined it as many times.

Bangarappa returned to the Congress in 2008 ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and was defeated by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's son Raghavendra in Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency. Dealing a double blow, Yedyurappa himself trounced Bangarappa from Shikaripur Assembly constituency in the Assembly elections.
