All India Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind leader and Rajya Sabha member Maulana Syed Mahmood Madni has said that District Magistrates and the Superintendents of Police should be held responsible for communal violence in their respective areas.

Madni addressing a meeting here last evening, said that DMs and SPs who are to maintain law and order should be held responsible and punished for any communal violence in their jurisdiction.

"The DMs and SPs can control the communal violence immediately, but at many times the violence goes for days," he alleged.

If the Constitution is amended with strict provisions of taking actions against top officials, then there can be solution to many problems faced by the minority community in the country," he said.

Maulana Madni was here to attend a grand meeting of the MP unit of Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind to mobilise support for its proposed "Mulk Bachao Millat Bachao Tahreek" (save nation and society) campaign starting from Kolkata on May three.
