Hundreds of CPI(M) cadres and supporters today held demonstrations across the state condemning Isreal's assault on Gaza and pledged solidarity with Palestinian people while accusing the NDA Government at the Centre of discarding the long-held pro-Palestinian stand of India.

Inaugurating the demonstration at Kozhikode, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said by hesitating to take a strong stand against Israel India had deviated from its long-held policy of friendship and solidarity with Palestinian people.

"Even Mahatma Gandhi decades back acknolwedged the right of the Palestinians over their homeland. This approach has been discarded by the present Government," he said.

Vijayan also crticised the United Nations for its failure to effectively intervene and bring an end to Israel's attack on Gaza. "The UN was formed with the purpose of providing protection to nations. But what has UN done in favour of the Palestinian people ?", he said.

Demonstrations were held in all districts in the state, which were addressed by party leaders including party polit bureau member M A Baby in the state capital.
