Congress Credits Sonia for Formation of Telangana

As Telangana came into existence as the 29th state of India, Congress today extended best wishes to the people of the state, reminding them that it was not possible without Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh's support.

Former Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, in whose tenure the Bill for creation of the new state was passed, credited the Congress President for formation of a separate Telangana.

"It was the desire of Sonia Gandhi. She had promised the people of Telangana that she will give them a separate state. She has fulfilled her commitment and the whole credit goes to her," Shinde told PTI.

Party General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who is in-charge of party affairs in undivided Andhra Pradesh, extended best wishes to the people of the two states.

"New States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh come into existence. My best wishes to People of both Sates", he tweeted.

Through another tweet, Singh hoped that through a healthy competitive spirit and mutual cooperation both States would grow. "Best wishes to KCR and Chandrababu Naidu."

"Let us also not forget that without Soniaji and Manmohan Singhji this wouldn't have been possible. They fulfilled the commitment made", he said in another tweet.

Telangana came into existence as the 29th state of India today, capping the decades-old struggle in the region for carving out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh. TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu will soon take charge as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Congress leaders from residual Andhra Pradesh congratulated citizens of Telangana as the new state came into being and hoped people of both the regions would support each other and live peacefully.

"Today, Telangana has been formed as 29th state and I congratulate each citizen of Telangana from bottom of my heart. The dream and struggle of Telangana people have come true. I congratulate the Chief Minister (K Chandrasekhar Rao) and his entire Cabinet on this occasion," former Union minister K Chiranjeevi said.

"Telugu people reside in both Telangana and Seemandra and I expect that they continue to live peacefully. Both the chief ministers must support each other and work towards providing peaceful environment in the state," he told reporters.

He said although Congress may not be in the government today, he hoped whatever was done via ordinance route will be implemented in Telangana and Seemandra states.

"I expect both the states will support each other and solve their problems to provide support environment. Our support will always will be there. I once again congratulate all," he said.

PCC chief Raghuveera Reddy also congratulated "all for fulfilling the 60-years-old dream" of formation of Telangana.

"I congratulate the Chief Minister and his entire cabinet. Telugu speaking people of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should support each other. This responsibility is on the shoulder of TRS, TDP and BJP. Congress party is always ready to support them. Supporting each other, both the states should take developmental steps," he added.
