'CBI-BJP nexus' to Malign TMC, Mamata: Partha Chatterjee

Trinamool Congress today alleged that there was a 'nexus' between BJP and CBI to malign the party and its chief Mamata Banerjee ahead of the Assembly by-polls in the state, against which it will protest outside the CBI office here.

The women wing of the party will stage a sit-in in front of the central agency's office here tomorrow.

"Our demonstration will be against CBI's attempt to malign the party and our supremo Mamata Banerjee. The direction of the CBI investigation into the Saradha scam is politically motivated," senior leader of TMC women's wing Chandrima Bhattacharya told PTI.

Describing Banerjee as "the most honest leader of the country", senior party leader Partha Chatterjee alleged that the 'nexus' between BJP and CBI was aimed at 'politicising' the Saradha scam probe before the Assembly by-polls.

"The way things have been politicised by the CBI is a shame and a day will come when the truth will come out. If they (BJP) are talking about chit fund then we also need an answer to the question where the huge money that was spent during the BJP's election campaign came from," he said.

He said measures should be taken to return the money to all the duped investors who have lost their savings in various chit funds from 1980s.

Chatterjee's outburst came after state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury questioned the silence of Trinamool Congress leadership on the arrest of former Director General of Police Rajat Majumdar in the Saradha scam.

When inquired whether Majumdar was a party member as claimed by opposition, Chatterjee said, "Everybody claims to be a party member of Trinamool but actually he was an associate."
