Union Ministers A R Antulay and Vilas Muttemwar and former Chief Minister Narayan Rane's son, Nilesh Rane, are among 17 candidates nominated by the Congress to fight the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra.
Besides Antulay, Muttemwar and Rane, AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik and former BJP MP Hari Bhau Rathod also figure in the list of contestants released by the AICC last night.
Under a seat sharing deal in Maharashtra, which has 48 Lok Sabha seats, Congress and NCP have decided to put up candidates in 26 and 22 constituencies respectively.
While Antulay has been renominated from Raigad and Muttemwar from Nagpur, Wasnik has been fielded from the newly created Ramtek-SC constituency and Nilesh Rane from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg.
Rathod, a former MP who crossed over from BJP, has been nominated from Yavatmal-Washim while Datta Meghe, a former NCP MP, has been fielded by Wardha.
Other Congress Candidates
Congress candidates who have been renominated are former minister Manikrao Gavit and MPs Priya Dutt, Eknathrao Gaikwad, Milind Deora and Suresh Kalmadi from their respective constituencies.
Bhaskarrao Khatgaonkar, brother-in-law of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, has been fielded from Nanded, Chavan's home district. Khatgaonkar is a former MP.
