Anil Ambani quits as Rajya Sabha MP amid office of profit row
Mumbai, Mar 25 (PTI) In the midst of the controversy over MPs holding offices of profit, noted industrialist Anil Ambani today quit his Rajya Sabha membership and would not contest again for the Upper House.

Anil, who is now occupied full-time managing his business empire Reliance-ADAG acquired as a result of the settlement of ownership row with his elder brother Mukesh Ambani, announced his resignation in a statement here.

"It is my firm view that, in public life, one must uphold the highest standards of transparency, propriety and ethics, and avoid any possibility of controversy, however remote or unlikely. Keeping this in mind, I have decided to tender my resignation from the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect," Anil said.

He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in June 2004 as an independent member with the support of Samajwadi Party, which became a bone of contention between him and Mukesh barely months before the ownership battle in Reliance empire became public.
