Advani Storms Into Last 32 of National Snooker C'ship

Indian ace Pankaj Advani kept himself in line for a double as he topped the group A table to storm into the last 32 of the senior National Snooker Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club today.

Advani, who won the senior National billiards Saturday, carried his sublime form into his pet snooker event as he thrashed Akshay Kumar, Sukumar Barman, Ankit Kariwala and Assem Arora by identical scoreline of 3-0 to top group A table.

Local favourite Sourav Kothari, who is defending champion in billiards, continued his poor form in snooker crashing out of the group stage.

Kothari lost to I V Rajeev (AP) and Monu Choudhary (Delhi), who made it to the pre-quarters.

Kothari though did win two matches in his group stage against Subrat Das (Odisha) and Volney Gomendes (Goa) but were not enough to make the last-32.

The billiards top seed had made a last-32 exit in his pet event as all eyes on his home turf was on the snooker event for a possible showdown with Advani.

Meanwhile, Arantxa Sanchis of Maharashtra set up final clash against her state mate Meenal Thakur in the women's billiards event.
