BJP old guards L K Advani and Shanta Kumar have been elected to the Committee on Public Undertakings while Murli Manohar Joshi has been made a member in the Committee on Estimates as three parliamentary panels were re-constituted today with their terms beginning on May 1.

Elections to the committees on Estimates, Public Undertakings and Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were held on Tuesday while the Public Accounts Committee will be re-constituted soon.

In a tough signal that it expects its MPs to take work seriously, BJP has dropped nearly a dozen members from these panels whose tenure ends on April 30.

The 20-member Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes include BJP MP and former Jharkhand DGP V D Ram and LJP MP Ramchandra Paswan.

The Committee on Estimates has 30 members. BJP members in the panel are Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Ram Tahal Choudhary Sonaram Choudhary, Raman Deka, Sanjay Dhotre, P C Gaddigoudar, Sudheer Gupta, Murli Manohar Joshi, Poonam Mahajan, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajesh Pandey, Ravindra Kumar Pandey, Raosaheb Danve Patil, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Anil Shirole, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Rajesh Verma.

Other members are Sultan Ahmed and Kalyan Banerjee (Trinamool Congress), A Arunmozhithevan and P Kumar (AIADMK), actor George Baker (nominated), Ashok Shankarrao Chavan and K H Muniyappa (Congress), Dushyant Chautala (INLD), Kavitha Kalavakuntla (TRS), Konakalla Narayan Rao (TDP), Mohammad Salim (CPI-M), Arvind Ganpat Sawant (Shiv Sena) and Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav (RJD).

The Committee on Public Undertakings has 15 members -- L K Advani, Shanta Kumar, Ramesh Bais, Prahlad Singh Patel, Krishna Raj Ramsinh Rathwa, Narendra Keshav Sawaikar, Rameshwar Teli, Hari Babu Kambhampati and Sushil Kumar Singh (BJP), Biren Singh Engti (Congress), Kristappa Nimmala (TDP), Shivaji A Patil (Shiv Sena), B Senguttuvan (AIADMK), and Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo (BJD).

BJP has dropped a dozen members, including Vinod Khanna, S S Ahluwalia, Dushyant Singh, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Varun Gandhi, Darshana Jadosh, Sanjay Jaiswal, Om Birla, Nand Kumar Chauhan and Pankaj Chaudhary, from the three financial panels.

Six MPs were removed from the Committee on Estimates and three each from Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Public Undertakings.

Kaushalendra Kumar of JD(U) and Dharmendra Yadav of Samajwadi Party, who had contested for membership in the Commuter on Estimates, could not make it to the panel. A total of 32 members had filed nomination for the 30-member committee.

Similarly INLD's Dushyant Chautala, Boora Narsingh Goud and B Vinod Kumar of TRS, and Saugata Roy of Trinamool Congress could not win the election to Committee on Public Undertakings. A total of 19 members had filed the nomination for the 15-member committee.

Trinamool Congress nominee Pratima Mondal could not make it to the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, which has 20 members. Twenty-one members had filed nomination for it.

Its members are Ram Charitra, Heena Vijay Gavit, Ramesh C Jigajinagi, Rattan Lal Kataria, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Virendra Kumar, Kirit P Solanki, Ajay Tamta, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma and Chintaman Navasha Wanaga (all BJP), Santokh Singh Chaudhary and R Dhruvanarayan (Congress), K Gopal (AIADMK), T. Sakuntala Laguri (BJD), Seetaram Ajmeera Naik (TRS), Ravindra Babu Pandula (TDP), Ramchandra Paswan (LJP), Charanjeet Singh Rori (INLD) and Krupal Balaji Tumane (Shiv Sena).
