Murder accused shot dead by police in Chennai

Chennai, Sep 24 (IANS) A criminal, facing multiple cases of murder, was shot dead here on Tuesday when he attacked a police team trying to arrest him, police said.

According to police, Manikandan from Villupuram has eight murder cases against him.

The Villupuram police got a tip-off that Manikandan was hiding in Korattur here and a team came to arrest him.

While police were trying to apprehend him, Manikandan attacked them with a long knife, injuring some policemen, following which they opened fire, killing him.
