Aizawl, Oct 23 (PTI) At least 18 people, including a legislator and two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram, raising the state''s tally to 2,359, a health department official said on Friday.

A one-month-old infant and a six-year-old are also among the newly-infected patients, he said.

Of the fresh cases, 10 are from Aizawl, four from Serchhip, three from Lunglei and one from Lawngtlai district.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 184, and the recovery rate is 92.20 per cent as a total of 2,175 people have recovered, the official said.

Mizoram has not reported any fatality due to COVID-19 so far.

According to the health department, 1,01,789 samples have been tested in the state thus far, including 1,236 on Thursday.

Ruling Mizo National Front MLA from Lunglei North assembly constituency Vanlaltanpuia, who is also the chairman of Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), said on Friday he has tested positive and urged people who came in contact with him to remain careful and stay at home.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus through a swab sample test. I am unaware of how I contracted the virus as I have no recent travel history, except that I had recently visited Vairengte, along with some other MLAs to take stock of the border situation," he said.

Vanlaltanpuia is the second legislator in the state to test positive after BJP MLA B D Chakma. PTI CORR SBN RBT RBT
