Amritsar, Jun 14 Customs department sleuths have seized over 800 gram of gold, worth
Rs 26 lakh, from a passenger at the airport here, officials said today.
Yesterday, on noticing suspicious movement, a passenger coming from Delhi was intercepted by the customs airport intelligence unit at the Shri Guru Ram Dass International airport, Customs Commissioner Dipak Kumar Gupta said.
He said during frisking, the passenger was found concealing four cut pieces of gold bars of foreign origin weighing 829 grams.
He had concealed the bars in his rectum, the official said.
Gupta, in a release, said the passenger has confessed of possession, carriage and concealment of four pieces of gold bars.
He said the recovered gold pieces have been seized and the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The official said that on further investigation of the passenger was underway.
On June 10, in two separate incidents, the sleuths of the Customs Department of Amritsar had seized 1214 gram gold having worth Rs 38.15 lakh.
