The medical entrance exam, NEET-UG, which was scheduled to take place on May 7, has been postponed in Manipur due to the ongoing situation. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the postponement and said that the new exam date for candidates whose test center was in Manipur would be announced soon.

This decision was made after Union Minister of State for Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh wrote to the NTA to take into account the current situation in Manipur and postpone the exam.

The postponement of NEET-UG in Manipur comes amidst violent clashes in the state over the government's move to grant scheduled tribe status to the majority Metei community.

The Naga and Kuki tribals are opposing this plan and have been organizing protests. These protests culminated in a 'Tribal Solidarity March' on Wednesday, after which the clashes broke out. The situation has become tense in Manipur with the imposition of curfew in some areas.
