Madhya Pradesh government dropped ace mountaineer Megha Parmar as the ambassador of the state's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' programme and sairy brand Sanchi after she joined Congress

Megha is known to be the first woman from Madhya Pradesh to reach the summit of Mount Event.

The state government's move came after Megha joined the Congress at an event in Chhindwara on May 9 in the presence of the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath.

It has been reported that a day after joining Congress, the Department for Women and Child Development revoked Megha as the state ambassador for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme.

Five days later, on May 15, her name was also dropped as the ambassador of the state dairy brand Sanchi.

Following the development, Congress lashed out at the BJP, alleging that the latter discharged Megha from the role of ambassador only because she joined the Congress.

What did Megha Parmar say?

“For the BJP, Beti Bachao has become Beti Hatao”, said the Everest climber  on being discharged from her current responsibility as ambassador.

"I am a farmer’s daughter. I couldn’t have imagined conquering the world's highest peak. Kamal Nath helped me a lot. He gave me financial assistance. As a result, I was able to conquer the world's highest peak. Instead of film actresses, Kamal Nath made the farmer's daughter a brand ambassador of the 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign. But the BJP government, which talks big about women's respect, removed the same farmer's daughter from the brand ambassador,” said Megha Parmar, as per media reports

“The claims being made by the BJP regarding women's empowerment today stand exposed. The action of the Shivraj government has not only insulted me but has demeaned women's empowerment,” she added.

Meanwhile, the state government is yet to respond to the allegations levelled by Megha Parmar and the Congress party.

On May 22, 2019, Megha became the first woman from Madhya Pradesh to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
