Earthquake Of 4.6 Magnitude Jolts Ladakh, Second In North India On New Years

This was the second earthquake to be reported on New Years day. Leh and Ladakh both lie in the Siesmic Zone-IV of the country, which means they are at a very high risk in terms of vulnerability to earthquakes.

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Ladakh on January 1 at 06:32pm. This was the second earthquake to be reported on New Years day from north India, with the first reported early on Sunday at 01:19am from Haryana's Jhajjar district

The earthquake on Sunday evening was felt 250 km North-Northeast of Kargil district as per information shared by the National Centre for Seismology. 

There were no immediate reports of any damages.

Leh and Ladakh both lie in the Siesmic Zone-IV of the country, which means they are at a very high risk in terms of vulnerability to earthquakes. Lying in the tectonically active Himalayas region, Leh and Ladakh are prone to frequent tremors.
