Delhi Court Discharges Sharjeel Imam In 2019 Jamia Violence Case

Activist Sharjeel Imam will continue to be in jail as he is also accused in the larger conspiracy case related to 2020 Delhi Riots case.

A Delhi court on Saturday discharged activist Sharjeel Imam in a case related to violence in Delhi's Jamia Nagar area in 2019. 

The court also discharged activist Asif Iqbad Tanha in the same case. The detailed order in the case is awaited. 

However, Sharjeel will continue to be in jail as he also an accused in the 2020 Delhi Riots. He is accused in the larger conspiracy case in which he and others accused of causing riots out of a conspiracy.   

Delhi Police had registered an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rioting, in connection with the communal violence that erupted after a clash between police and people protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
