Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday inaugurated the wellness centre under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare via videoconferencing mode.

It is a great pleasure for me that Coimbatore, known as the textile capital of South India, finds a place today on the map of CGHS, said Mandviya.

The health and wellness centre will play a pivotal role in providing good medical facilities to the people of Coimbatore, he noted. “It is our government's responsibility to provide quality healthcare services and welfare for our CGHS employees, pensioners and their dependents."

These centres would help in increasing the ease of attaining medical services, he said and highlighted that the number of CGHS centres has increased from 25 to 79 today, according to an official release here.

This is in line with the vision of Prime Ministeri Narendra Modi to provide easily accessible healthcare services closer to the communities, the release quoted him as saying.

The ministry is working in mission mode on several fronts to improve the services being provided by CGHS to its beneficiaries, it added.

CPI(M) leader and Lok Sabha MP, P R Natarajan, who opened the centre by cutting the ribbon, said the facility will benefit Defence personnel, government employees, pensioners and their families in western Tamil Nadu, like Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode and Dindigul and Palakkad in Kerala state.
