Alcohol Smuggling Increases In Gujarat Ahead Of New Year

Ahead of the new year, Gujarat finds itself trapped in the illicit liquor business. Ambulances, trucks and various other transportation modes are being used by smugglers to transport liquor in the dry state.

According to a report by India Today, in one incident, liquor worth Rs 7 lakh was seized by the Limbdi police in the Dahod district. Simultaneously, foreign liquor worth over Rs 26 lakh was seized by the Kheda police.

Quoting police officials, the report said that the alcohol seized in Dahod was mostly from Madhya Pradesh and along with that a cash amount of Rs 59,000 was also recovered. 

Further, a truck was stopped that was smuggling liquor in the Ahmedabad-Vadodara border. “The truck had a Haryana registration plate. During checking, a police team found 174 boxes of foreign liquor. The driver of the truck escaped, leaving behind the truck,” a police official said.

In light of excessive smuggling, police said that they have increased patrolling and are active around the border areas.
